I mark my books, marginalia everywhere, and when I go back and reread them a few years later I am surprised at what I thought was important back then to what I am underlining and noting as important today. It will be interesting when my kids read through some of my books.
No, usually just a shift in emphasis. For example, I recently reread Leithart's A House For My Name. My first time through, 9 years ago, I underlined themes about God's actions. His plan and providence. Now that I am an old man, I found that I underlined more about faithful suffering of the saints.
